I've realized that in order to make any significant changes in my weight, I am going to have to change my lifestyle and my routines. One of those changes is trying to add in some exercise to my routine. The town I work in recently opened a public walking track, and I decided that I would go and check it out. A friend of mine from work and I went to check it out last week, and I was really pleased with it.
The walking track is off the road and in a large field. It runs in a loop by the river, and everything is peaceful and scenic. The track itself is graveled with very fine gravel and is an approximately .45 mile loop. I have been trying really hard to go walk it every other day or so. I made two laps the first time I walked, 3 laps the second time, and 4 the third. I have bad knees from all the extra weight that I've been carrying around, so I've had some soreness, but I've been pushing through it, and i always feel better when I am done.
I've also been using the MyFitnessPal app to track what I eat again. I find that I am far more aware of how much I am eating (and better at determining if what I am eating is worth it) when I track it. I've been pretty good at coming in slightly under my calorie goal each day.
Another big change for me is that I reduced my pop intake. I've been drinking diet pop for a long time anyway, since 2007 when Chris was diagnosed with diabetes. I don't know if I buy into all the hype about diet pop being worse for you or making you fatter, but I figure water is better for me anyway, so I've been trying very hard to keep water in the fridge and to reach for it instead of pop.
I haven't weighed myself yet. I plan to weigh in on Sunday since that will make a week of tracking, and I am hoping for a good outcome.
